The Great Jettison: Part 7

Sometimes, you can trust people...

We like to think of the internet as a rude, vile place populated with jerks, bigots, amateur pornographers, and scammers.  It is, of course, but we sometimes forget that, outside of the Web's Weirdest, there are still a few normals way out there...

Next on the auction block...another bookshelf.  These things just sell like crazy here.  The one below had some condition problems, but was entirely functional.  We listed in on Craigslist for $5, including the condition in the text of the post, of course.

The functionality prevailed!  We heard from a prospective buyer who actually emailed us back in a timely manner!  Shocking!  We went back and forth about pickup, but they needed to pick up on a Friday morning before leaving town for the weekend.  We had to work, but they suggested a "leave it outside and we'll leave you the money" deal.  We were skeptical, but the worst that could happen was them taking the not perfect shelf that we needed to get rid of anyway, so we went for it.

We left it in front of the garage door, sent them my address, and hoped for the best.  When we got home, we found the shelf gone, and an envelope of cash in the door.  They even left a little thank-you note to us for being so trusting.  Success!  What a refreshing experience, especially after so many lowball offers and pickup meeting flake-outs.  We'd include the note if we still had it, but we thought it important to share this little victory.  We did find people like us, practical, thrifty, honest, and respectful.
